Martin Darmanin born 1960, from an early age Martin was introduced to the equine world, he was employed as a full time groom at the Darmanin Riding Establishment where he received the introduction to farriery from his father Gerald and general horse knowledge from his uncle Salvu Darmanin. Martin was greatly involved in horse breaking during the 70’s. Besides the farriery teaching and hands on experience Martin in 2011 obtained a certificate in “Farriery Knowledge” from Telford Rural Polytechnic (Lincoln University) in New Zealand. During 2013 Martin obtained a certificate in ‘The Horse’s Foot’ from Warwickshire College Group UK. Moreover in 1996 Martin obtained a Malta University Services Certificate in ‘The New Managers’ then in 1997 Martin obtained from the Malta Chamber of Commerce a certificate in ‘Managing Effectively’.
Martin is the first and only Maltese farrier to be a member of the European Federation of Farrier Associations (EFFA). During November 2012 Martin attended the AGM of EFFA held in Helsinki, Finland. Moreover in November 2016 Martin also attended the EFFA AGM held in Newbridge Ireland.
He also attended for a farriery educational event held at The Danish Farrier School at the National Danish University Copenhagen Denmark. Since 2009 Martin together with MCAST Agribusiness started organizing an introduction to farriery course. On a regular basis Martin together is his daughter Jessica organize seminars and/or is invited to present farriery classes by various groups. Martin is also invited on local TV and radio stations to present horseshoeing related programs.
